OPENING GOVERNMENT – AUSTRALIA’S ACTION PLAN
It’s been a busy start to the year with engage2 now helping the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet engage those of you interested in the development of the Australia’s Action Plan for Open Government. It’s pretty exciting!
The project is being delivered as part of the Australian Government’s commitment to the Open Government Partnership (OGP) – an international agreement to ensure Government is open, transparent and accountable.
Each country that commits to the OGP is required to develop a National Action Plan for Open Government. The Action Plan should reflect the principles of Open Government and demonstrate how Government will innovate, make the most of technology available and ensure efficient use of public resources.
The project is well underway with my focus on the ways my team and I can enhance the existing engagement strategy. My intent is to make the process of document development as transparent and engaging as possible, and to work with groups across Australia to get their ideas and input into the Action Plan. If you are interested in receiving updates about the project or getting involved I would like to hear from you now, so we can prioritise getting you up-to-date on the project and invite your involvement in our engagement activities. You can register for updates on the website.
The Australian Government has made their commitment to the OGP and now’s the time to help our Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet (DPC) shape what that looks like with real measurable actions. The call is out for input from you, Australia’s citizens, for how our Government might improve public services and the management of public resources.
DPC are inviting both your ideas and your involvement in the development of the Action Plan, which includes measureable actions the Australia Public Service can deliver and report against. The document is being drafted live so you can observe and comment on it’s content, and you can comment on the blog posts on the website now. We are also working on an ideas template to include in the website.
We’ve undertaken a stakeholder analysis and have a huge list of people to engage. Our plan is to raise awareness over the next few weeks and build stakeholder capability to convene conversations and collect input.
I’m currently reading through all the comments received to date and calling everyone who has expressed their interest in being involved in the project, through the website or via #OGPAU on Twitter. I’m especially keen to hear from those of you who have suggestions for how we can engage you and your community.
I look forward to working with you as we work towards a more open Government.
