Engaging with: Elizabeth Tydd, NSW Information Commissioner

Elizabeth Tydd, NSW Information Commissioner, is an incredible advocate for open government and public participation in Australia. She views public participation as the “cornerstone of democracy”. We need to understand who thinks what and why for effective policy development and delivery that stays representative of contemporary views.

Engagement must be an ongoing two-way dialogue to ensure services provided and policies developed are in the public interest. This requires a sharpened focus and a new way of doing things in this contemporary environment. Public participation is so important now at a time when trust in government is declining.
